NASA’s Webb Telescope Team Earns Space Foundation’s Top Space Exploration Award

At this year’s Space Symposium, NASA’s Webb Telescope team received the coveted 2023 John L. “Jack” Swigert, Jr. Award for Space Exploration. L3Harris, along with other industry partners, were recognized for contributions to the historic program.

L3Harris was responsible for assembling and integrating Webb’s complex system of mirrors while rigorously testing the telescope’s hardware to simulate the harsh conditions of space. These crucial efforts have enabled the world’s premier space science telescope to provide an extraordinary view of the cosmos.

“The Webb telescope is successful because of the contributions of thousands of individuals who spent years tirelessly working on this incredible space program,” said Ed Zoiss, President, Space and Airborne Systems, L3Harris. “The dedication of L3Harris engineers, technicians and support staff enabled Webb to provide the unprecedented images of deep space we are seeing today. We look forward to continuing our valued partnership with NASA to make future space exploration programs equally rewarding.”

Recognizing extraordinary accomplishments by a company, space agency or consortium of organizations for space exploration and discovery, the John L. “Jack” Swigert, Jr. Award for Space Exploration is presented annually at the Space Foundation’s Space Symposium. This year’s award was presented April 17, 2023, during the opening ceremony.
