Delivering Detection

In order to efficiently keep surface ships safe from increasing underwater threats, navies around the world are quickly adapting with advanced sensing capabilities. Surface combatants need help tackling the growing and increasingly technically advanced undersea threats. Whether it is a submarine or an advanced sea mine, many countries are making significant investments in state-of-the-art technologies that can cause significant harm to surface fleets.

Low-Frequency Active Towed Sonar

L3Harris’ solutions, like the Low-Frequency Active Towed Sonar (LFATS), a variable-depth sonar usually mounted on small surface vessels, was designed to specifically detect threats like torpedoes and alert the crew of an incoming menace. The company's LFATS system is used on ships to detect, track and engage all types of submarines. L3Harris designed the system to perform at a lower operating frequency against modern diesel-electric submarine threats.

Additionally, L3Harris also produces a Helicopter Long-Range Active Sonar (HELRAS) which provides operators with a significantly more capable, interoperable and versatile weapon system that reduces total operating costs by minimizing the time needed to execute an Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) mission. L3Harris’ next-generation towed sonar systems also offer a significant reduction in sensor power, internal component diameter, bend radius and production costs.

L3Harris prides itself on designing, developing and manufacturing undersea sensors for surveillance and detection. The company has provided undersea sensor systems solutions since 1991 and is well-known for the production of the TB-29C and TB-34A towed array sonars, as well as providing integrated solutions for total ship monitoring, re-deployable undersea surveillance sensors, surface ship torpedo defense sensors, submarine hull array electronics and acoustic sensors for unmanned vehicles.
